Applying for a Provisional Licence
You need to complete a D1 form. Available from DVLA’s ordering service or your local Post Office. Allow approx 4 weeks for your application to be processed.

Theory Test
The Theory test is in two parts.
Part 1. Multiple Choice questions from highway code
Part 2. Hazard Perception Test
You will need to pass both parts to successfully PASS the Theory test.

Practical Test
Prior to taking your test, Your examiner will expect you to pass:-

• Eyesight test – To read a number plate from given distance
• Show me question on basic car safety & maintenance
• Tell me question on basic car safety & maintenance

You will then start your practical test and be scored on your driving ability. 15 minor driving faults will be allowed during the test, but any major faults will result in automatic fail. The test will take approximately 40 minutes to complete.

Please bring the following with you to the test:-

• Theory test pass certificate
• Your test appointment card
• Both parts of your photo card licence or old style licence & separate photo ID

Failure to do this will result in Test Centre/DSA cancelling your test and your test fee not being refunded.
